With BFCM approaching, starting your planning early is crucial for success.

To stay ahead, here are four actionable insights based on the latest trends to maximize your success this year.

A/ Go All In On Retention and Loyalty Programs

In 2023, repeat purchases made up 56% of all transactions, a 180% increase from the previous year, while first-time purchases dropped by 45%.

This highlights the need to focus on retention and loyalty strategies. Prioritize loyalty programs, referrals, and winback campaigns to engage existing customers with exclusive offers and personalized recommendations, fostering repeat purchases and brand loyalty.

For example - The Spice House makes their winback email personal and seasonal by offering a free jar of their best-selling ground cinnamon when you spend $25.

B/ Segment Your Audience

Segmented email campaigns during BFCM 2023 drove a 29% revenue increase.

Notably, just 20% of ecommerce merchants who segment their lists generate nearly 80% of all revenue.

Use purchase, engagement, and behavior data to tailor your messaging, especially distinguishing between non-purchasers and purchasers.

Despite a 52% increase in discounts in 2023, gross revenue only rose by 20%, showing that consumers want more than just discounts.

To stand out, focus on unique value, such as free shipping, gifts, or faster delivery.

For example, Golde offered a gift with purchases over $100, emphasizing value beyond discounts.

Say you’re redesigning your website. Or putting the final touches to that banner ad.

Where should you write your price?

Here’s what scientific research found is most effective.

Position your price below your product (e.g. on your ad, product page, store shelves), not above.

People will perceive the price to be lower and be more likely to buy.

🧠 Why it works

  • The metaphor that β€œdown = less” and β€œup = more” is ingrained in most of us as a concept. For example, one can be β€œking of the hill” or β€œup in heaven”, and hit β€œrock bottom” or β€œgo down to hell”.
  • So when we see a price in a low vertical position, we associate β€œdown” with β€œless” and perceive it as a smaller number than what it is.

Small changes can lead to big impacts.
